The impact of social research | CRFR conference, November 2011

Our colleagues at the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships – CRFR – are holding this conference on 30th November 2011. Looks like an excellent programme for any social scientist interested in research impact.

CRFR 10th Anniversary National Conference: “Influencing society: the impact of social research”

This one day conference explores the role of social science in influencing policy, practice, public and wider debates about issues in contemporary society.

A central element of the day will be to showcase innovative practice in engaging a range of audiences with social science ideas and asks the following key questions about what social science can bring to other sectors:

  • What does it mean to use social research?
  • How can social science research impact on society?
  • How do people engage with ideas from social research?
  • Are new social media good ways to communicate?
  • What are the latest innovations?

The conference is an opportunity to share innovative ideas and learn from people pushing the boundaries in engaging and communicating social sciences.

Speakers include:

  • Sandra Nutley, University of Edinburgh Business School: What does it mean to use research
  • Ann Millar, Assistant Director, Scottish Funding Council: Looking to the future
  • David Phipps, Research Services and Knowledge Mobilisation, University of York, Toronto, Canada: Knowledge Mobilization from the perspective of a Prince and a Cat
  • Helen Chambers, Head of Delivery & Strategy at Inspiring Scotland Using Research in the Real World: a research users perspective
  • Sarah Morton and the Knowledge Exchange Team from the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships (CRFR): Reflecting on ten years of knowledge exchange at CRFR
